Ok, so I decided to write something that wasn't a rant of some sort. Lets give this a try.
So from here on, I will each week, write about the bold that is being brewed. Who knows maybe even twice, once at the beginning and once at the end. Yet I have neglected to share the best part of this program. Each week when you buy the brew of that week you get a sticker for this little lay out they have. At the end of the program, you get 1 pound of free bold brew of your choice. Awesome right? So while informative this may be, it will also help me pick which one I like most.
Before diving in, a little info on my coffee prep might help. I enjoy coffee strong, but I like a little extra as well. My order: Grande bold with a little room. This "little room" allows me to put in a tench of 1/2 and 1/2 and one packet of Splenda. Regardless of the size I use only 1 packet or it makes it taste funny.
This week (March 22-28th): (Starbucks) Red East Africa Blend (*** out of 5)
Description: This blend of coffees from East Africa is balanced and complex with citrus, herbal and brown spice notes.*Note this does give some wicked breath, so have some mints or your tooth brush handy*
As in the title part of the sale goes to fighting AIDS. Project Red is being adapted by many other companies including Gap, Converse, and Apple. Now on to the coffee.
Out of the past 3 weeks this is my number two favorite (Yukon Blend being #1). I am not a coffee pro, but this is one bold brew. When its fresh hot, you can definitely taste the herbal and spices in the back ground. Yes its true, all coffees taste a lot alike, but after enough, you can taste some differences. The citrus in this one doesn't come until that "coffee breath" smell. The one thing I do like about this Africa Blend is that I love it hot, but I can also do it when it has been cooled down a lot (not iced). When it cools, you really get the spices out and are able to enjoy it a little better than when LAVA hot. There is a definite "earthy" tone in the coffees after taste, not dirt, but just…grounded and level. If you like coffee, but are weary on trying a bold because it might be to "coffee…y" Its a good place to start.
In the past two weeks, Yukon Blend and Italian Roast have come and gone. Yukon blend is what a good bold coffee should be. Just enough kick with out to much going on in your mouth (TWSS). The Italian Roast, I can't say so much for. I wasn't a big fan of it. The mixture of sweet and bold wasn't working for me, but I am not a person for sweet coffee mixtures anyways.
Next week is Komodo Dragon Blend (spicy, herbal and earthy) which I am kinda looking forward to. Be sure to check back.
